Wattle Tree House’s Real Impact on Homelessness
They were once called “Itchy and Scratchy” and most Bathurst crisis services had washed their hands of them.
For Shaun Peters and Hayley Spice, it was the end of the road.
They’d lost their children, and were homeless and addicted to heroin.
But Bathurst’s main housing support service, Wattle Tree House, took them on, despite their reputation.
The service is run by the Orange Local Aboriginal Land Council, and targets adults and families in need of help.
